Bauli

Background
Bauli is an Italian company specializing in the production of baked goods, particularly known for its traditional Italian pastries and holiday specialties such as Pandoro and Panettone.
Objective
As part of its digital transformation, Bauli migrated to SAP S/4HANA—the first such project in Italy. I was involved in building Embedded Analytics for reporting, transitioning from the legacy Board system. A year later, Bauli expanded its analytics capabilities by launching Italy’s first SAP BW/4HANA project, using a Greenfield approach to enhance reporting across multiple business areas, including Sales, Finance, Purchasing, and Stock Management.
Tech Stack
Source System: SAP S/4HANA
Database: SAP HANA
Data Warehouse: SAP BW/4HANA
Connectivity: ODP, Smart Data Integrator (SDI)
ETL Process
Extract: ODP
Transform: ABAP/AMDP TRNFs, HANA Calculation Views
Load: ADSOs populated via DTPs
Front-end Reporting
SAP Analysis for Office
SAP Analytics Cloud
Gathering of Business Requriments
Creating technical documents, architecture and models for the following modules:
Purchasing (MM-PUR)
Sales (SD)
Financial (FI-CO)
Stock Movements (MM-IM)
Approach
The approach used was Hybrid (SAP HANA + BW).
Most of the models were done directly in SAP HANA using SQL/Graph based Calculation View.
Master Data:
We created Attribute Based SAP HANA Calculation View, and mapped then in the InfoObjects. Below an example for the WBS Element.

Transactional Data:
We created Cube Based SAP HANA Calculation View, and mapped them to the SAP HANA Composite Provider. Below an example for the Financial using ACDOCA Table.

Reporting
On top of the SAP HANA Composite Provider, we developed a comprehensive reporting solution that includes both high-level summary reports with SAP Analytics Cloud for strategic insights and detailed operational reports for in-depth analysis with SAP Analysis for Office.
Conclusion
As a successful outcome of this project, we successfully completed the SAP BW/4HANA implementation, delivering a robust, standalone data warehouse that enhanced reporting across Sales, Finance, Purchasing, Stock, and other key business areas. The project’s success was further recognized when it won the SAP Silver Award for Innovation, marking a significant achievement with the successful go-live of Italy’s first SAP BW/4HANA project.
